The Texas Rangers are allegedly interested in Brandon Belt, a two-time World Series winner.
The organization had “internal conversations about Belt, who played for Texas manager Bruce Bochy in San Francisco,” according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.
Belt, who confessed that the 2023 season with the Blue Jays “could be the end” for him, previously played 12 seasons with the Giants. He signed a one-year contract with Toronto and concluded last season slashing.254/.369/.490, with 19 home runs and 43 RBIs. These 19 long balls were the second most in his career.
Olney claimed that the Rangers’ general manager, Chris Young, was asked how much money he had available. The franchise might also reunite with top free agent pitcher Jordan Montgomery, who helped the Rangers reach the World Series in 2023.
The Rangers also lost Mitch Garver to the Seattle Mariners. He was the best offensive bat on the free agent market.
Belt is a good fit for Texas because he is a native of the state and the team needs a designated hitter, but a lot depends on the 35-year-old.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” Belt remarked in October. “I do not know. I just do not know yet. It’s something I need to discuss with my family to see what their ideas are, as well as how I feel about it in a couple of months, and then go from there.”
