JUST IN: Denver Broncos Suprisingly Added QB to NFL Draft at Senior Bowl

This week at the Senior Bowl in Alabama, rumours circulated concerning the Denver Broncos. The franchise may seek to trade up for one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft class, such as USC’s Caleb Williams or North Carolina’s Drake Maye.

While that appears improbable given Denver’s lack of assets following the trades for head coach Sean Payton and Russell Wilson, quarterback will remain a target position in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Tulane’s Michael Pratt told reporters at the Senior Bowl that he’d already had a couple of interviews with the Broncos in Mobile.

NFL Mock Draft: Caleb Williams Falling to Patriots?
Pratt definitely doesn’t have the same reputation as Williams and Maye. However, the 6-foot-2 signal caller is garnering traction at this early point in the pre-draft process. He might be a surprise late first-round or second-round choice when the annual event rolls around.
Wilson’s release by Denver before the start of the new league year in March is nearly a given. He was benched late in the season, despite the Broncos still in postseason contention. Sean Payton and his team intend to take a different approach.

In this scenario, the Broncos add another seasoned quarterback who is a better fit for Payton’s system. They also double down on a young quarterback early in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Denver will take the 12th pick in the draft. Its next selection will not be until No. 76 overall. Short of trading someone like standout cornerback Patrick Surtain II, the team lacks the ammunition to trade up. He’s not going anywhere.

Instead, the Broncos might try to acquire more assets by dropping down in the first round. This would allow them to potentially add Pratt to the mix without appearing overly ambitious.

The quarterback appears to be a good match for Payton’s offence.

“Pratt’s elite competitive toughness will always be a plus, and he does have enough arm elasticity to work off-platform in spurts — but he won’t elevate offences off of his physical talent alone,”

Sounds identical like Drew Brees, former quarterback of the New Orleans Saints. That is, his competitive nature and ability to make off-platform passes. These two factors defined Brees’ career under Payton in New Orleans.
