Ryan Brasier, a former Boston Red Sox pitcher, is a free agent with a fairly healthy market. Last offseason, he was still in Boston, and some speculated that the organization would let him leave.
Brasier continued with Boston through the start of the season, appearing in 20 games and posting a 7.29 ERA before being designated for assignment and eventually being released.
The seasoned pitcher signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and dramatically turned things around. Brasier shone in Los Angeles, with a minuscule 0.70 ERA in 39 appearances and a staggering 38-to-10 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
While with the Dodgers, Brasier experimented with his pitch mix and excelled. He is now a free agent, seeking for his next opportunity. He joined the Dodgers in the minors this season and will most likely receive a major league contract with many options.
It appeared that he was on his way out of the major leagues, but it wouldn’t be strange to see him sign a multi-year contract in free agency.
It’s unknown where he’ll end up, although Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter has mentioned the Philadelphia Phillies as a possible destination.
“Brasier enjoyed a career renaissance with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season after he was released by the Boston Red Sox in May, posting a 0.70 ERA and 0.72 WHIP in 39 appearances,” Reuters said. “He is one of the few relievers left available who is a sure thing to get a big league contract. Predicted landing spot: Philadelphia Phillies.
Reuter attempted to anticipate the landing destinations of the top remaining free agents, ranking Brasier at No. 15 on his list and linking him to the Phillies.
While this does not necessarily indicate that a deal with Philadelphia is imminent, such a move could make sense.
