Roy Hodgson responded when asked about the reports that Eberechi Eze and Crystal Palace are likely to start contract negotiations.
The Athletic broke the thrilling news, reporting that Crystal Palace was eager to re-sign the attacking midfielder.
Since Eberechi Eze is without a doubt the main player of the South London club, this would undoubtedly be tremendous news for the organisation.
Last season, his 10 Premier League goals were significant, and this season he has continued to be a major attacking danger for the team.
Eze contract negotiations according to Roy Hodgson
Michael Olise was secured by Crystal Palace this summer, which was a major coup for the team. With Eze, they are currently attempting the same.
A question concerning Eze was raised at Roy Hodgson’s news conference. He was asked if the rumours that the player and the club had begun contract negotiations were accurate.
If he could provide an update, Hodgson was questioned. “Not me, no,” he remarked. If you want updates on any contract matter at the club that Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman handle, particularly those involving contracts of that nature.
“I don’t get involved in the contracts; I just expect the club to give me the players,” he said, “I’m afraid if you really wanted details about what’s happening you were going to have to speak to them.”
The manager’s decision to hold his cards close to his chest about these alleged contract talks is obviously frustrating for the fans.
But it makes sense; if the 25-year-old signs a new contract, Palace supporters would be over the moon. He will thus not want to raise their expectations.
