SAD NEWS: Miami Hurricanes lose Two Important Staff to the NFL.

The Miami Hurricanes lost Tim Harris to UCF and are now losing “GM” Alonzo Highsmith and cornerback coach Jahmile Addae to the NFL. Harris was ‘promoted’ from RB to “OC” with the Knights, though Gus Malzahn will still call the plays on game days.

Addae will coach cornerbacks for the Buffalo Bills, while Highsmith will work in the front office for the new-look New England Patriots. Addae had a questionable record as a recruiter, which was clearly not part of his function in the NFL.

Highsmith is said to have desired more decision-making power at Miami, which is a rare request at the Power 5 level for anyone other than the head coach.

Staff changes are customary in February, after the dust has settled from National Signing Day, and before spring football begins in early March. Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal hopes to have a CB coach and GM lined up, as he appears to have done with the RB position, as Matt Merritt is looking to transfer from USF to Miami.
If I’m not mistaken, in three seasons at Miami, Cristobal has replaced his offensive coordinator (Shannon Dawson/Josh Gattis) and defensive coordinator (Lance Guidry/Kevin Steele), as well as shifted responsibilities for his defensive line coach (Joe Salave’a).

The Hurricanes are 12-13 after two seasons under Cristobal, and with the 2024 schedule, they are poised and desperate to compete in the 12-team College Football Playoff.
