The Boston Celtics did not oversleep at the NBA trade deadline, making numerous transactions before the clock struck 3 p.m. ET on Thursday while still having room to make one additional roster addition.
Boston, on the other hand, is still barred from adding anyone earning $12.4 million or more through the buyout market, limiting alternatives but not eliminating them entirely. The Celtics have already addressed their reserve unit weaknesses with the additions of Xavier Tillman and Jaden Springer, but here are four more players Boston might add after the deadline:
1. Danuel House Jr. ($4.3 million).
Philadelphia and Boston had previously reached an agreement prior to the deadline, allowing the Celtics to get Springer, but the 76ers also parted ways with Danuel House Jr., a potentially useful depth player who is now available.
Philadelphia released House, 30, allowing the 76ers to explore the buyout market. That allows the 6-foot-6 veteran to go from one Eastern Conference contender to another.
House averaged 4.2 points on 44.8% shooting in 34 games this season, including four starts for the Sixers. He also has four years of playoff experience. In addition, he has a career 3-point percentage of 35.9%.
2) Cedi Osman ($6.7 million)
Cedi Osman, who previously played for a non-contending San Antonio Spurs club, remained a valued and productive bench player.
Above all, the 28-year-old is a reliable 3-point shooter, shooting 37.3% from beyond the arc this season on 3.3 attempts. Osman has averaged 7.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in 51 games, playing 18.2 minutes off the bench.
Given the Celtics’ reliance on outside shooting, Osman would be a great match to help bolster the starting lineup. This season, Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla has also been unable to rely much on Sam Hauser, who is meant to fill the bench shooter role.
3. Delon Wright ($8.1 Million)
The Celtics addressed their need for a front-court backup, and with an uncertain bench that has struggled with scoring at times, Delon Wright may serve as a veteran backup to starters Jrue Holiday and Derrick White.
The 33-year-old averaged 4.4 points on 39.7% shooting while playing 15.1 minutes in 29 games for the Washington Wizards. Despite playing limited minutes, Wright has averaging 1.2 thefts this season.
4. Seth Curry ($4 Million)
Not the best shooter in NBA history, but certainly serviceable.
Seth Curry, who joined the Hornets alongside Grant Williams in Thursday’s trade with the Mavericks, is likely to pursue a buyout to secure a position on a contender’s team. Maybe the Celtics?
Curry only appeared in 36 games for the Mavericks, averaging 12.7 minutes per game from the bench. The 33-year-old averaged only 4.3 points per game yet shot 43% from 3-point range for his career. Curry would give the C’s an advantage over Svi Mykhailiuk.
