ESPN NEWS UPDATE: Pierce’s Sends Three words Reaction to Becoming Raiders Permanent Coach

Antonio Pierce is the Las Vegas Raiders’ permanent head coach. On January 19, the Raiders announced that Pierce’s interim tag would be removed and he would become the full-time head coach. Pierce took over midseason in 2023 and went 5-4 in the second half of the season. Pierce’s teaching style motivated players and won over supporters. It appeared to be a no-brainer for Raiders owner Mark Davis, who made the decision that many in Raider Nation hoped he would. Pierce was grateful to be named head coach of the Raiders. On the most recent episode of defensive end Maxx Crosby’s podcast, The Rush with Maxx Crosby, he described how he learned he had been hired.

“I walked outside, looked up to the sky, and I was just thankful,” he went on to say. “Humbled, honoured; I know I’ve said it before, but on some serious s—. “This is real, man.” Pierce also reflected on his background and acknowledged Crosby’s charisma. “A former player, an inner-city dude from the bottom, has the opportunity to join the organization as a linebacker coach. Maxx was one of the first individuals to introduce himself to me when I stepped into the building. First f—ing day. Out of the gate. I’m like, “This dude is different.” I’ve been around a few males, but he’s different.” Pierce cites Crosby’s character and leadership as reasons the culture grew so strong.

“We’ve spent endless hours and talks discussing everything. Life, football, on and off the field, family, personal, money, leadership, championships, and then that went over to our entire squad.” Pierce stated what he had told Davis and laughed about his preparation. “When the opportunity arose, I was like, ‘What’s up? I’m ready. I asked Mark, ‘Are you ready?’ Because I don’t think he realized what he was about to enter into. I was born ready. I arrived early, five days to be exact.

Crosby has long praised Pierce and is thrilled that he will be the team’s permanent leader. He admired Pierce’s personal honesty and transparency. “I stood on the table for him; all the guys stood on the table for him because what you see is what you get,” Crosby went on to say. “That’s ultimate respect.” The whole podcast episode may be accessed here. From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be hosted in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. The NFL Draft will take place in Detroit, Michigan, on April 25-27, 2024.
