Although the 2024 season is still in its early stages, trade rumours have already begun to circulate.
Soon, summer will arrive, and with it, the trade deadline. It’s never too early to speculate on whether the Boston Red Sox will be buyers or sellers, but the situation is currently unclear.
The Red Sox are currently 10–10 on the season. Boston has a lot of talent and started the season 7-3, but injuries have already wrecked the season, with the Red Sox losing seven of their previous ten games. If the Red Sox can get healthy, they should be able to compete for a postseason place, especially if they acquire a few players.
If not, Boston is a potential seller at the deadline. Kenley Jansen, Boston’s standout closer, could be on the move. According to Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly, he has been the subject of trade rumours, with the Philadelphia Phillies being one team mentioned as a potential destination.
“Ideal Landing Spots: Phillies, (Atlanta Braves), (Kansas City Royals), and (Milwaukee Brewers),” he remarked. “Kenley Jansen was rumoured to be a trade candidate this winter, but he eventually stayed with the Boston Red Sox to start the season. Jansen, on the other hand, will turn 37 in September and will be eligible for free agency after the 2024 season, so unless Boston remains in the postseason picture, he will most likely be traded this summer.
“Returning to the Braves, where he spent the 2022 season, makes sense. The (National League) East rival Phillies, who have a lot of talented relievers but no established closer, could be an even better option.”
It would not be unexpected to see Jansen traded this season. Don’t be shocked if speculation increases.
