According to multiple Miami websites, the football program will host former Oregon State running back Damien Martinez, Houston wide receiver Sam Brown, Michigan State defensive tackle Simeon Barrow, Louisville linebacker Jaylin Alderman, and Marshall cornerback Dyani Hill within the next week.
According to reports, Brown and Martinez are leaning toward Miami. If Martinez’s visit to Miami goes as planned, he may make a decision soon. Brown appears to be the next most probable candidate to commit to Miami in the future. Alderman and Brown have connections to the Hurricanes, which may affect their decisions.
Barrow enrolled in the transfer portal last week and spent the weekend at LSU. Florida State and Texas are allegedly among the most popular programs for Barrow, along with LSU and Miami. After losing DT Jared Harrison-Hunte to the transfer portal on Monday, Miami needed to acquire depth at the position.
Before entertaining Martinez this weekend, Miami workers made two in-home visits. Martinez’s visit to Coral Gables this weekend is his last before making a decision. Arizona appears to be the Hurricanes’ primary opponent for Martinez’s pledge.
Brown is considered a top candidate for Miami. Earlier this week, the Inside the U podcast revealed that Brown and Miami quarterback Cameron Ward worked out together in Houston. Brown is a big play receiver who, at 6’2, is the second tallest receiver on the Miami squad behind Isaiah Horton, who stands 6’4.
Alderman would provide Miami with an experienced LB to complement returning starters Wesley Bissainthe and Francisco Mauigoa. Miami is younger than Bissainthe and Mauigoa. Derek Nicholson, Miami LBs coach, signed Alderman at Louisville. Alderman has one season of eligibility left.
Hill spent the last two seasons at Marshall under new Miami CBs coach Chevis Jackson and will play for Hurricanes defensive coordinator Lance Guidry in 2022. Hill would provide depth for Miami behind the anticipated top three cornerbacks, Damari Brown, Darryl Porter Jr., and Jadais Richard.
Tyler Barron, an edge rusher from Louisville, is another transfer worth keeping an eye on. Barron re-entered the transfer portal in spring after moving from Tennessee to Louisville during the winter transfer period. Miami needs depth after losing edge rushers Nyjalik Kelly and Jayden Wayne during the spring portal window.
There have been no reports on when Barron might visit Miami. The spring transfer portal window will close on April 30. This weekend will be key for Miami’s transfer portal. Martinez’s pledge will give Miami one of the strongest QB-RB tandems in the nation.
Martinez and Brown’s commitments might pave the way for more transfers to show interest in Miami this spring. Miami currently has the 34th ranked 2024 transfer class. A pledge from Martinez should dramatically increase Miami’s ranking. The coming week should be exciting for Miami in the portal.
