HUGE REACTIONS: Broncos World and NFL Brutal Reactions To Leaked Secret Why Kirk Cousins Moved on From Vikings Before Being Blindsided By Falcons

The Vikings had wandering eyes.

Kirk Cousins opted to stop the relationship.

Cousins chose the Falcons over the Vikings this offseason in part because Minnesota informed him that it planned to choose his replacement early in the 2024 choose, according to Sports Illustrated.
Minnesota eventually selected Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the tenth pick, while the Falcons unexpectedly selected Cousins’ prospective replacement, Michael Penix Jr., at number eight.

NFL Draft: Kirk Cousins 'stunned' by Falcons drafting QB Penix Jr.
Cousins’ decision to walk into the situation he was trying to avoid proved to be a stroke of bad luck, but he does have $100 million guaranteed in his four-year contract with the Falcons.
Minnesota and Atlanta emerged as Cousins’ alleged two suitors, with two characteristics distinguishing the Falcons from the incumbent team.

While Minnesota deserves credit for being open and honest with Cousins about its goals, their desire to locate a future quarterback, regardless of whether he stayed, appears to have conveyed the incorrect message.

Cousins, who had recently had an Achilles tendon injury, appeared to want to be wanted rather than serve as a placeholder for a college prospect.

Atlanta evidently did not do this, as Cousins and his camp were taken aback when Atlanta selected the draft’s most divisive player as his eventual successor.
Now, the Falcons will have to deal with potential turmoil this season as they strive to return to the playoffs.

The other element, like most things in life, was money.

Minnesota was apparently unable to guarantee the 35-year-old’s second year of contract.

“Cousins figured that if he stayed, there was a good chance that he’d be on the move in 2025,” Sports Illustrated wrote.
The Falcons ultimately guaranteed $100 of the $180 million contract.

Cousins will at least get a handsome paycheck when the Falcons eventually give over the reigns to Penix.
