DEAL IN ADVANCE STAGE: Denver Broncos Are Reportedly In Advance Blockbuster Trade to Sign Another QB Move After Zach Wilson Trade, Bo Nix Pick

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Broncos have released quarterback Ben DiNucci.

DiNucci played three games for the Cowboys in 2020 before moving on to several clubs, including the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons, where he had a successful season. He then took a minicamp tryout in Denver, but was eventually cut.

This offseason, the Broncos made a deliberate attempt to rebuild their quarterback room. Their most significant move was releasing Russell Wilson. Denver traded a large trade package to the Seattle Seahawks a few years back to obtain Wilson, but he never worked out with the Broncos. The former franchise quarterback inked a lucrative contract extension with the Broncos that officially begins this year, the same season he was released. Wilson costs Denver $53 million against the cap in 2024.

Jarrett Stidham is still on the roster as well. He started two games down the stretch in 2023 as Denver elected to keep Russell Wilson healthy ahead of potential trade talks.

As we approach the NFL’s offseason programs, the Broncos’ starter resembles Bo Nix. Stidham proposes QB2 and Wilson as an emergency plan. It isn’t a glamorous quarterback scenario, but the Broncos have done what they can given their cap constraints.

The failure of the Russell Wilson trade is a significant setback for Denver. Wilson finished his two seasons with the team with 6,594 passing yards, 42 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions. During Wilson’s tenure, Denver went 11-19. Bo Nix is projected to outperform all of these numbers during his rookie season, and the roster is set up to allow him to do so.

Denver has made many moves this offseason to position their new quarterback for success in year one. During free agency, the team signed Josh Reynolds from Detroit and acquired some offensive line depth. They also provided reinforcements to the defensive line and secondary.

Bo Nix will have several weapons to choose from. Denver’s top three running backs (Williams, Perine, and McLaughlin) return, along with rookie Audric Estime. Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims Jr., Josh Reynolds, and newcomer Troy Franklin head the receiver room.

Denver’s starting offensive line is likely to include Garrett Boles, Ben Powers, Luke Wattenberg, Quinn Meinerz, and Mike McGlinchey.
