After Tottenham Hotspur’s League Cup exit last week, Richard Keys believes chairman Daniel Levy should be ‘furious’ with Ange Postecoglou.
In his most recent blog entry on his website, Keys expresses his disbelief that Postecoglou fielded a’reserve’ team at Craven Cottage.
Postecoglou has had a fantastic start to his tenure as Spurs manager, with three wins from four games.
Spurs defeated Burnley 5-2 over the weekend, following wins against Bournemouth and Manchester United.
Tottenham, on the other hand, were eliminated from the Carabao Cup at the first attempt last week after losing a penalty shootout against Fulham.
And Keys believes Daniel Levy should be unhappy with his new head coach after missing out on another chance at silverware.
Levy and Postecoglou are key figures.
“Spurs purred at Burnley,” Keys wrote. Postecoglou must be kicking himself for sending a reserve team to face Fulham in the League Cup.It’s a disgrace to throw away a chance to win a trophy after so many years without one. We know why so few Premier League teams take the competition seriously, but it’s nearly a given if you do.”
“He got away with it because the League form has been so good,” he continued, “but I’d be furious if I was Daniel Levy.” Postecoglou made a bad decision.”
Postecoglou made nine substitutions on the night, and it’s fair to say they didn’t all work out.
But it’s hard to imagine Levy being angry with Postecoglou following the work he’s done in North London so far.
In just a few weeks, the 58-year-old has dramatically altered Tottenham’s style of play, revitalizing both the players and the supporters.
