The Texas Longhorns have emerged as a team to watch during SEC media days. With the Longhorns joining the SEC, they enter the season with one of college football’s most dangerous lineups.
Former Alabama head coach and current ESPN analyst Nick Saban has already made some telling remarks regarding Arch Manning.
“I saw them all operate in their spring game, but, you know, Arch Manning was fantastic in the game,” Manning said.
“I’m gonna alleviate some of your concerns because I know you’ve got seven wideouts that can all play,” Saban told Texas coach Steve Sarkisian. “I understand you have three quarterbacks who can all play. Baxter was the best running back I’d seen on any squad, so you’ll be able to run the ball. If you can run it, you’ll always perform better in the red zone. I’m just going to hold a small coaching clinic here just in case.”
Then, Nick Saban praised Texas running back CJ Baxter, according to Nick Schultz of On3.
Baxter is starting his sophomore season. In 2023, he carried for 595 yards and four touchdowns while Jonathon Brooks served as the team’s top back.
Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell have also left the offence, which means Baxter might get even more touches in 2024.
Texas has high expectations for their debut year in the new-look SEC. If Baxter can emerge as the weapon Saban believes he can be, Sarkisian’s squad will receive a significant boost.
