OFFICIAL TRADE WINNERS: Philadelphia Phillies Are Clear Winners In Early Trade After Signing Another White Sox Outfielder Despite Adding Hays

The Philadelphia Phillies have already made one significant move ahead of the 2024 MLB trade deadline next week.

On Friday, the Phillies traded for outfielder Austin Hays from the Baltimore Orioles. While he’s a solid addition to their outfield, Philadelphia may not be finished with outfield movements.

MLB source Jon Heyman of the New York Times reports that the Phillies are still interested in veteran Chicago White Sox outfielder Tommy Pham. There were also other names touted as possible trade candidates.

“The Phillies are looking for a righty-hitting OF. Tommy Pham is on the list. Other right-handed outfielders who could be moved include Ward, Kevin Pillar, Lane Thomas, Mark Canha, and Brent Rooker, as well as switch-hitter Ian Happ.

Pham would be an intriguing target for the Phillies. He’s the type of experienced player who can keep a team together, lead, and still have an influence on the field.

Pham has played 67 games for the White Sox in 2024. He has a batting line of.260/.327/.372, with five home runs and 18 RBI.

Pham, like Hays, would be acquired as a guy who could come off the bench. He can make spot starts and step in when other players struggle. If an injury arises, he will be more than prepared to take a slot in the regular starting lineup.

Pham is 36 years old and has an expiring contract. He won’t cost much, but he could come in handy.

Given the other players listed, trading for someone like Rooker or Happ would be a more significant move. It all hinges on what the Phillies believe they need.

Aside from the outfield spots, Philadelphia is anticipated to pursue an impact reliever. They could use more bullpen talent. As with their outfield need, the Phillies have been linked to a plethora of potential targets.

Expect a lot of rumours about the team over the following few days. The trade deadline is approaching, and tensions are rising.

Don’t be surprised if Philadelphia makes another move or two before everything is said and done.
