OFFICIALLY SEALED: Broncos Have Just Officially Completed The Signing of Former New Orlean Saint Most Experienced Star To Replace Quinn Bailey’

The Denver Broncos want to sign offensive tackle Calvin Throckmorton to their practice squad after he clears waivers today. His experience playing under Sean Payton with the New Orleans Saints is undoubtedly a solid argument to keep him around this season.
The injury to Quinn Bailey also creates a significant dilemma for Denver’s offensive line depth. The squad has been extremely healthy since Loren Landow’s departure, but injuries may and do occur — just not as frequently as they did under his watch.

As for Throckmorton, our own Ross Allen evaluated his fit with the 2024 Broncos earlier this year and said:

He also has 32 snaps as a sixth offensive lineman in Sean Payton’s offence, and with Quinn Bailey’s untimely injury, Throckmorton could be in position to reclaim that spot, albeit with Denver rather than the Saints.

He’s fairly athletic for a guard and played tackle for the majority of his NCAA career, but he was moved inside due to worries about his ability to keep up with NFL EDGE rushers. He made a smooth shift, though, and looks good on the interior offensive line.

Throckmorton is a smart athlete who can handle bull rushes and other defensive linemen’s strength manoeuvres. You can anticipate him to basically hold his own in front.

With over 2,000 total snaps in 49 starts, that first line is likely why he is on the practice squad rather than the original 53-man roster. Bailey was Denver’s sixth offensive lineman, so there will be a lot of attention on that role with the remaining depth on the offensive line.

If Thockmorton continues to improve, his playing time on the active roster might expand significantly. As a seasoned veteran, he should have an advantage over the other players on the roster in that aspect.
