JUST IN: Commanders’ Jayden Daniels Gets Encouraging Injury Update, But There’s a “CATCH”

Washington Commanders supporters may rest easy knowing that rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels may be fine. Near the end of the Commanders’ opening drive against the Carolina Panthers, Daniels appeared to be uncomfortable in his abdomen. He finished the drive after leaving the field and headed straight into the blue medical tent. Daniels then left the tent and returned to the changing room. Daniels was subsequently diagnosed with a rib injury and did not return against the Panthers, leaving backup Marcus Mariota to handle cleanup responsibilities.

Dan Quinn, the Commanders’ head coach, stated he did not have an injury update following the game.

“I can’t give you an update on Jayden right now, but I will as soon as we find out. We will conduct additional tests tomorrow,” Quinn stated. “Then, when we meet in the afternoon, we will give you an update. But I don’t know what to say to everyone other who has asked the same question. Same answer, but I just wanted to make sure I was completely clear.”

So the Commanders are in a holding pattern until they receive the findings of Daniels’ ribs. Daniels has been one of the NFL’s most impressive rookies, leading the Commanders to a 4-2 record. Surprisingly, Washington leads the NFC East and appears to be in an excellent position to make the playoffs if their quarterback stays healthy.

Will the Commanders be fine without Jayden Daniels?

Landover, Maryland, USA; Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (5) runs with the ball against the Carolina Panthers during the first quarter at Northwest Stadium.

Daniels has been one of the NFL’s finest quarterbacks this season. Losing him for an extended period of time would be a huge blow to Washington’s offence, which has been extremely explosive with the rookie sensation at the helm. This season, Daniels has appeared in six games and is presently 127-168 for 1,410 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions. He is also gaining yards on the ground. Daniels has carried the ball 66 times, totaling 372 yards and four touchdowns.

Daniels has been impressive. He’s a clear favourite for Offensive Rookie of the Year, and missing time due to a rib injury could jeopardize Washington’s playoff hopes. The rookie’s influence goes beyond his on-field performance. His mobility and ability to extend plays have added additional dimensions to Washington’s offence, giving receivers more opportunities to make plays and keeping defences on their heels. Hopefully, his rib tests will come back clean, and he’ll be under centre when the Commanders face the Chicago Bears.
