Rangers have named Philippe Clement as their new chief executive officer, following the dismissal of underperforming manager Michael Beale.
Clement received his official presentation on Sunday morning, with Gers chairman John Bennett congratulating him on his new position.
“I would like to offer my warm congratulations to Philippe as he becomes our 19th manager,” Bennett stated, according to the club’s X profile.
“His appointment comes at the end of a carefully planned and comprehensive recruitment process.
Rangers have been looking for a new manager since dismissing Beale earlier this month following a spate of dismal defeats in the Scottish Championship.
Former Chelsea and Everton manager Frank Lampard was one of the early possibilities to follow the 43-year-old, but the club immediately ruled him out.
The Gers’ shortlist eventually consisted of only two names. Bennett was also interested in Yokohama F. Marinos tactician Kevin Muscat.
Clement, on the other hand, has won the race as he returns to management after being out of work for a few months following his firing at Monaco in June.
The Belgian manager had been in charge of the Ligue 1 superpower for almost a year, succeeding Niko Kovac.
in January 2021, propelling the team from the French principality from sixth to third place.
Last year, he failed to guide Monaco into the Champions League group stages, losing to PSV Eindhoven in the qualification play-offs.
Clement’s team then failed to go past Bayer Leverkusen in the first round of the Europa League, while their domestic campaign was a disaster.
After failing to secure European qualification, Monaco parted ways with the 49-year-old at the end of last season, replacing him with ex-Leverkusen manager Adi Hutter.
Clement will have a week to adjust to his new surroundings and assist Rangers reclaim first place in the Scottish Premiership after falling seven points behind leaders Celtic.
