The Dodgers’ front office is already hard at work this winter, with an eye on American League All-Star pitcher Garrett Crochet. Crochet will be available this summer, according to Bob Nightengale, and the Dodgers are one of the two most aggressive clubs.
“A long list of teams have expressed interest,” he stated. “The appropriate players have to be present. We’re focusing on position-player returns. We can’t force anything. That is evident.
At the trade deadline, Los Angeles attempted to add the left-handed pitcher from the Chicago White Sox to its rotation. However, the White Sox wanted prospects that the Dodgers refused to give up. As a result, the teams were unable to reach an agreement on a transfer.
Chicago lost a record number of games during the regular season, the most in contemporary MLB history. As a result, the team must focus on rebuilding, and dealing Crochet is the first step. Crochet made $800,000 last season but will be worth much more in the trade market, giving the White Sox the opportunity to acquire young talents.
In addition to the Dodgers, the Philadelphia Phillies have expressed an interest in Crochet. Like the Dodgers, the Phillies attempted to acquire Crochet during the trade deadline.
Los Angeles already has a solid rotation for next season, led by Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Tyler Glasnow is expected to be recovered by spring training, and Shohei Ohtani is another likely starter, though his recent elbow surgery may postpone his Dodger debut.
Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw, both starting pitchers, are now free agents. Despite declining his player option, Kershaw has previously stated that he will be a “Dodger for life”. He will most likely receive another contract from the Dodgers. Meanwhile, the franchise did not make a qualifying offer to Buehler.
