The NFL has faced criticism after Jameson Williams was fined $19,697 for clutching his crotch, despite the NFL utilizing the act to promote its YouTube highlights.

The Lions wide receiver connected with Jared Goff for a 64-yard touchdown in Detroit’s blowout victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.

A decade earlier, the Seahawks great executed the same feat during a 79-yard touchdown run.

Lynch was fined $11,050 for the second dive, and Williams has been punished for ‘unsportsmanlike conduct (obscene gestures)’.

However, keen-eyed fans noticed that Williams’ celebration is the thumbnail image on the NFL’s official YouTube highlights of the game. By Saturday night, the video had already received 1.1 million views.Williams celebrated by leaping into the air and placing his palm on his genitals, same like Marshawn Lynch did after his legendary ‘Beast Quake’ run against the Saints in 2011.

‘Funny how the NFL labels this gesture as “obscene” and then they utilize it to promote their own videos,’ one social media user commented.

Other fans were also frustrated by the sentence. “What a joke.” Bigger things to worry about and the league focuses on this,’ one remarked.

Patrick Mahomes was also fined heavily by the NFL for celebrating a score.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback connected with Noah Grey for a touchdown throw in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills.

After connecting with the tight end, the three-time Super Bowl champion made a gesture that drew the attention of the decision-makers.

Mahomes pointed with two fingers on both hands, which the league deemed a replica of using a gun. This season, the NFL has tightened its rules against gun-related gestures, and Mahomes is the latest to suffer the consequences.

According to NFL source Tom Pelissero, the 29-year-old received a $14,069 punishment from the league for unsportsmanlike conduct, which was deemed a “violent gesture.”
