SAD NEWS: Saint Interim Head Coach Darren Rizzi Issues a Frustrating Injury Update On Saints QB Derek Carr Who Injured Left Hand On Dive In 4th Quarter of Win Over Giants

Derek Carr, the New Orleans Saints’ quarterback, damaged his left hand late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 14-11 victory over the New York Giants when he went airborne while attempting a first down and collapsed to the field.

Carr attempted to leap over a Giants tackler and landed at the New Orleans 39-yard line, using his non-throwing hand to soften the fall. He stayed on the turf for a minute or two before heading to the medical tent. He was inspected and walked carefully to the section where X-rays were taken.

“A phenomenal effort trying to make a first down,” interim coach Darren Rizzi said of the play, which occurred with the Saints up 14-11 with little under four minutes remaining.

New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr Feared to Have Fractured Hand

Carr suffered an oblique injury earlier this season, forcing him to miss three games. Tight end Juwan Johnson, who had a touchdown catch on Sunday, believes the quarterback will miss additional time. Carr was not available to meet with reporters following the game.

“He’s just had a tough time. “We’re behind him,” Johnson stated. “Off the field, he’s still Derek Carr. You simply need to be there for him emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

The injury might jeopardize the Saints’ (5-8) already limited playoff chances, as they trail Tampa Bay by two games and Atlanta by one in the weak NFC South.

Rizzi was asked if Carr will join the concussion protocol following his jarring hit with the turf, but the coach couldn’t answer.

Carr, according to Johnson, advised teammates that it was time to put it all on the line before getting harmed.

“And that is a true example of laying out on the line.” “The guy just cares about his team a lot,” Johnson added.

Carr went 20 of 31 for 219 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown pass to Johnson in the third quarter. He also guided a 98-yard drive, which Kendre Miller finished with a 6-yard run in the first quarter, as New Orleans won for the third time in four games under Rizzi, who took over after Dennis Allen was dismissed last month.

New Orleans Saints Derek Carr Injury Could Lead To More Haener, Rattler Discourse

Jake Haener replaced Carr and passed off to Miller, who was stopped on third-and-1 by Giants linebacker Micah McFadden. The Saints punted.

After an interception by New Orleans’ Demario Davis, Haener went three-and-out on the following series. With 1:21 to go, the Giants regained possession and were only a thumb away from forcing OT.

New York drove to the Saints’ 12-yard line, where defensive tackle Bryan Bresee blocked Graham Gano’s game-tying 35-yard ( goal attempt.
