There are three games left in the regular season, and the playoffs begin next month. The Detroit Lions are 12-2 after snapping an 11-game winning run.
Last Sunday, the Buffalo Bills defeated Detroit 48-42 at Ford Field. They not only lost the game, but also lost several crucial players. RB David Montgomery and DL Alim McNeill are out for the season after both suffering knee injuries.
CB Carlton Davis also suffered a jaw injury and will miss six weeks. These players join Aidan Hutchinson, Marcus Davenport, Derrick Barnes, Malcolm Rodriguez, and Alex Anzalone, among others, who are out due to injuries.
That is a difficult pill to stomach, especially given the Lions’ Super Bowl expectations. Hutchinson’s interview generated enthusiasm among fans, despite the team’s “next man-up” ethos.
Lions’ News: Aidan Hutchinson says he’ll be back if the Lions make the Super Bowl
The former Michigan great spoke with Taylor Lautner and indicated that he will return to the field if Detroit advances to Super Bowl LIX.
“I am on schedule to return for the Super Bowl. I keep telling all the lads when I see them at the facility that you just have to get there, and I guarantee you that I will be back.
– Aidan Hutchinson
That is music to the fans’ ears. Hutchinson shattered his tibia and fibula in Week 6’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Prior to his injury, the 24-year-old was on course to win Defensive Player of the Year honours.
In five games, he recorded 19 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. Hutchinson had a 94.9 overall grade from PFF and a 95 on the pass rush.
The Lions have suffered a slew of injuries, but knowing that their finest defensive player is hoping to return is encouraging. Granted, he would probably only play a few snaps, but having him on the field would provide the squad with a boost of energy.
Detroit has their hands full making the trip down to New Orleans, but No. 97 vows he’ll be on the field.
