
Jason Heyward, a five-time Gold Glove winner, has inked a deal with the San Diego Padres. Heyward is an experienced offensive and defensive veteran who will be easy to cheer on. He’s the type of player who won’t need to be given a major role in a platoon. The 15-year MLB veteran will add value by delivering effective offence and defence. Heyward was previously a top prospect for the Atlanta Braves in 2007. He was also noted for having excellent strike zone discipline at the time. Heyward has previously played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Dodgers, and Houston Astros. He is a one-time All-Star and World Series champion.
Heyward is recognized for his outstanding plate discipline. He also possesses good base running ability, bat speed, and great right field defence. When the Astros acquired Heyward, he delivered on their expectations. The Astros got him on August 29th, when the Dodgers released him. Heyward can use his success in the late 2024 season as a springboard into 2025 with the Padres.
Heyward has worked hard in recent seasons to improve his performance. Heyward hit 15 home runs for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023, with a.269 batting average and an OPS of.813. Furthermore, Heyward put up respectable stats with the Houston Astros across 24 games this season, with 12 hits, 9 RBIs, and five walks.
Heyward also experienced a great Astros moment in 2024. In the top of the fifth inning, Heyward made an excellent catch in left field to steal a double from Cal Raleigh. Later in the game, when Heyward came up to bat, he smashed a two-run homer to give the Astros a 4-3 lead.
