DEAL OF THE SEASON: MLB NY Mets Killer Signing Emerges As GM David Stearns Set To Put Mets In Title Race With The Blockbuster Signing of MLB All Star Pitcher.

While the New York Mets would want to add outstanding San Diego Padres pitcher Dylan Cease to their rotation before the 2025 season, a new MLB rumour appears to rule that out.
The New York Mets have had a pretty good offseason. They came into the fall/winter season with major voids in their pitching staff. The team responded by signing several players, notably Sean Manaea and AJ Minter, who were popular among fans.

They did, however, achieve two massive aims. To begin, many were surprised when they were able to sign New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto for a record $765 million. Then, after months of on-and-off negotiations, they ultimately re-signed local All-Star Pete Alonso to a deal that benefited both parties.

For the most part, it appears that the New York Mets’ 2025 roster is decided. However, there have been reports that the organization would prefer to sign another starting pitcher. They have also been linked to the chase of Padres pitcher Dylan Cease. However, an update from New York Post MLB insider Jon Heyman casts doubt on the prospect of a deal.

Dylan Cease numbers (2024): 14-11 record, 3.47 ERA, 1.067 WHIP, 224 strikeouts, and 189.1 innings pitched.

MLB rumour discloses a huge Dylan Cease trade asking price for the New York Mets.

“If the Mets are going to land Dylan Cease, Padres targets likely include Brandon Sproat, Jett Williams, and Luisangel Acuña,” according to Heyman. “The Mets wouldn’t do a Sproat-Williams combo for Garrett Crochet so no chance they do it for a rental.”

MLB.com placed Sproat and Williams as the Mets’ top two prospects at the end of 2024. Acuna finished 12th in their final standings. While Cease is a talented impact pitcher, he has never been named an All-Star in his six seasons with the league.

Dylan Cease’s contract: one year, $13.7 million.
Over the previous year, owner Steve Cohen has made it obvious that he wants to elevate the organization’s farm system to top status. While he is ready to spend large, as we witnessed last winter, giving up premium assets for a good but not great pitcher is not in line with the team’s long-term vision.
