Jayden Daniels’ strongest fan has been with him since the beginning.

Shortly after receiving Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year on February 6, the Washington Commanders quarterback, 24, spoke with PEOPLE from the SiriusXM stage on Media Row about the highlights of his rookie season. He recalls the “energized” home game against the Atlanta Falcons, where they clinched a playoff spot in front of a packed Northwest Stadium.

“Everyone’s getting out their flags. “Everybody’s wearing Washington gear, so it was exciting to see the stadium packed on Sunday night,” he tells PEOPLE.

The Commanders’ fan base voted for Daniels for rookie of the year with the same fervour, and the athlete deems them the “best fans in the NFL.”
His biggest fan, however, is his mother and manager, Regina Jackson.

“She goes to every game, no matter if it’s cold, rainy, snow, she’s gonna be in the stands for sure,” he tells me.
Even before turning professional, Daniels stressed Regina and Javon’s contributions to his accomplishment. On The Pivot Podcast in December 2023, while still with the Louisiana State University Tigers, Daniels remarked, “Everything they’ve done for me, I’ve been so grateful for.”

The second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft concluded his first season with rookie quarterback records, including the highest points per game. He guided the Commanders to their first postseason wins in nearly 20 years, defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship.

At the 2025 NFL Honours, the Commanders star gained another honour to his amazing season, winning AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year with 49 out of 50 first-place votes from a countrywide media panel.

“I’d like to thank my mom, who is in the stands. I’d like to thank my family back home. “Thank you for helping me get to this point,” Daniels said during his winning speech.
