According to journalist Dean Jones, Leeds United fans may now have “a little laugh” after the “messy situation” with Nadiem Amiri due to his lack of game time for Bayer Leverkusen.
During the previous transfer window, the offensive midfielder was embroiled in a summer saga with Leeds, to the point where the club flew him over by private jet and showed him around the training facilities.
Leeds did not pay for Amiri’s return home when the goalposts on the transfer were changed, and the plug was pulled.
Jones believes Leeds fans will have a wry smile on their faces after he has made just four Bundesliga outings this season, totaling just seven minutes.
“In the end, it was a bit of a mess.” “Amiri was wandering around Leeds city center, and it appeared as if he was getting a feel for the place,” Jones, a former Eurosport journalist, told GiveMeSport.
“And then, whether he priced himself out of it or didn’t fancy it, we’ve never really figured out why it didn’t work out.” But I’m sure a few Leeds fans are chuckling to themselves since he isn’t getting any games.”
There is no love lost.
Amiri looked set to join Leeds during the summer transfer window, but he changed his mind at the last minute, with some speculating that it was due to concerns about playing in England’s second division.
He could have been playing for a Leeds side that is flying high in third place under Daniel Farke and battling for rapid promotion back to the Premier League, but instead he is becoming intimately acquainted with the Leverkusen bench.
In reality, Leeds fans are unlikely to give Amiri much thought. After all, the squad is soaring high in the league, and a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Norwich City on Saturday (21 October) lifted everyone’s morale.
