
March 7 (UPI) — Linebacker Derrick Barnes has signed to a three-year, $25.5 million contract deal with the Detroit Lions, he announced on social media Friday.
Barnes’ agency, Sportstars, revealed that the arrangement contains a $16 million guarantee.
Barnes joins the Lions in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The linebacker stands 6 feet and weighs 240 pounds. Started three games last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
In 2023, the four-year veteran had 16 appearances, including 13 starts, and recorded a career-high 81 combined tackles, five tackles for loss, a sack, and forced fumble. During his first 51 appearances, he has 205 combined tackles, 12 tackles for loss, four sacks, and four passes defensed.
Barnes received the 42nd-best defensive rating from Pro Football Focus among NFL linebackers who played at least 50% of 1,170 snaps in 2023, his first full-time starting season.
