As a result, the upcoming game against the Michigan Wolverines (22-8, 14-5 Big Ten) will have no impact on the final standings. It might provide a boost to the Spartans’ upcoming Big Ten Tournament and March Madness run.

Despite having to rally late on guard Jase Richardson’s 22 points, Izzo, an 11-time conference champion, was satisfied with his team’s road performance.

“I do give my team credit for having some character on the road to come back when it didn’t seem like it was our night,” Izzo relayed following the victory.

Izzo also took aim at some unnamed media people who may try to diminish the significance of winning the regular-season championship.

“When I was coming up, winning the conference championship was the greatest thing… it’s a bit sad,” Izzo said.

As the weekend approaches, so does clarity in the league. However, one thing is clear: Michigan State appears to be the team everyone is targeting as the postseason approaches.
