The Denver Broncos had a number of shining spots during the 2023 season. Bo Nix established himself as the franchise quarterback, Courtland Sutton surpassed 1,000 yards, Marvin Mims emerged as a receiving threat, and the team’s defense was among the best in the NFL. In 2023, the Broncos rehired former head coach Vance Joseph as their defensive coordinator.
However, the defense struggled in the early stages. Joseph’s team allowed 181 points in their first five games, averaging 36.2 points per game. During same time, Denver also let up 70 points against the Miami Dolphins. After the first few weeks, Joseph returned to his favorite defensive plan, which substantially improved the Broncos’ defense.
The defense allowed 19.3 points per game for the remainder of the season. By 2024, Joseph’s team was the third-best scoring defense in the NFL, with defensive end Zach Allen standing out as a key player. According to Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette, Allen is looking for a substantial deal this offseason.
Spotrac.com estimates that his market value is $22.1 million a year. Allen is entering the final year of his contract, with a basic salary of $12.7 million and a cap hit of $19.79 million. Allen had a great year last season, appearing in 16 regular-season games and recording 61 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and 40 quarterback hits. If Allen does not get the deal he wants, he will become a free agency following the 2017 season.
