DECISION TIME: Green Bay Packers GM With a Brutal Jaire Alexander Decision After $48 Million Addition

According to ESPN’s Rob Demorvsky, the Green Bay Packers have had cornerback Jaire Alexander on the trade block since early in the summer, and this remains true even after cornerback Nate Hobbs signed in free agency.

“While Alexander remains on the roster, the Packers are still trying to trade him, according to team sources and a source close to the player,” Demovsky tells me. “They could wait indefinitely, but they’d probably prefer to have something done before next month’s draft.” According to one insider, the team has not approached Alexander about taking a pay reduction, and even if it did, he would decline.

Without a trading partner, the Packers would certainly release him, but there is no rush because he has no guaranteed money left on his contract until the start of the regular season, when he is due $17.5 million.

Alexander is a very effective cornerback when he is able to play, but he has struggled to remain on the field over the last two seasons. He appeared in seven games each of the last two seasons, and the Packers are hopeful Hobbs can fill that role while remaining healthy.
