Everton’s revival under Sean Dyche continued on Saturday (4 November) with a well-earned point against Brighton.
Of course, it could have been much sweeter for the Toffees at Goodison Park, where Vitaliy Mykolenko scored after just seven minutes.
The hosts were denied all three points in the 84th minute when Ashley Young sent the ball past his own goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Dyche will have mixed feelings about the outcome, with satisfaction coming from a draw against a talented Seagulls team.
But there will be disappointment as well, with the manager knowing that his team fell just short of a memorable and significant victory.
Away from Goodison Park, the manager received a positive update on a first-team player, with Seamus Coleman returning to competitive action.
According to the official Everton website (4 November), the right-back played for the club’s Under-21s against Manchester United on the same day the first-team drew with Brighton.
Coleman played the first 45 minutes of the game at Leigh Sports Village after missing five months due to a knee injury.
It remains to be seen how far the veteran defender is from rejoining Dyche’s squad, but he is now closer than ever. It’s a huge boost for the manager, who has been missing his captain both on and off the field in recent months.
The club’s Under-21s are back in action on Tuesday (7 November) with a trip to Mansfield Town in the EFL Trophy, which could provide Coleman with another opportunity to get some much-needed minutes.
