GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Falcons designated two players for standard practice squad elevations on Saturday, making wide receiver Frank Darby and defensive lineman Timmy Horne eligible to play against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Darby’s promotion is most likely a reaction to Mack Hollins’ ankle injury, which forced him to miss the Week 10 game. With Darby added to the mix, the Falcons will now have five options. On game day, the Falcons usually have that many receivers active.
If David Onyemata is unable to play, Horne provides some defensive interior coverage. With an ankle injury, he was listed as questionable on the team’s official injury report.
Or, as in previous weeks, a defensive tackle could be elevated based on practice-week competition and single-game matchups. On that front, only time will tell.
Darby has been promoted to the practice squad for the first time. After the game, he will return to the practice squad without the team having to make a formal transaction.
Darby, who attended Arizona State University nearby, will undoubtedly be moved by this game.
The Falcons selected the energetic, aggressive receiver in the sixth round in 2021. As a rookie, he appeared in 10 games and had one reception for 14 yards. He spent most of last season on the practice squad, but he did appear in five games and had one 15-yard catch.
Darby was waived/injured on August 14, but returned to the practice squad on October 3.
Horne has already appeared in two games this season, recording three tackles. Last season, he appeared in all 17 games and made five starts.
