HUGE BOOST: Boost Celtics has received a huge boost as club announced the returned of former five-time All-NBAer

According to Inside The Celtics’ Bobby Krivitsky, a return for elderly veteran Blake Griffin, whose game has aged like fine wine far more than milk, is “less likely than not” as the front office seeks a contract holder for their final roster position.

“As the Celtics consider their options for filling their 15th roster spot and or last two-way vacancy, it appears less likely than not that Blake Griffin will return for a second stint in Boston,” Krivitsky said. Boston is one of several clubs interested in Lamar Stevens, who might fill a last roster space himself.

“Free agent swingman Lamar Stevens has drawn interest from several teams, including the Celtics, Timberwolves, Rockets, and Heat, HoopsHype has learned,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto wrote on September 13.

After an offseason makeover, the Boston Celtics may have everything they need.
The Boston Celtics quietly underwent one of the more significant offseason changes. The Kristaps Porzingis-Marcus Smart trade was undoubtedly the most significant rotational alteration, but the loss of Grant Williams and the acquisitions of Oshae Brissett and Dalano Banton might present the team with the very requirements that many say the Cs still have.

Brissett has worked his way into the Indiana Pacers starting lineup for the 2021-22 season, and Banton, at six-foot-nine, provides intriguing length and defensive versatility at the point guard position.

Of course, expecting these two to contribute is unrealistic, but dismissing the possibility that they would help the C is also a fool’s errand.

If the Celtics do not feel that Banton or Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, who signed a non-guaranteed deal this offseason, meet their demands, both might be released with minimal financial consequences. Brad Stevens has kept enough wiggle room to continue making tiny but astute plays in the trade and free agent markets.
