If there is one thing that distinguishes the Miami Heat from the other NBA teams, it is their ability to provide second chances to NBA players.

While the Heat typically focus on developing undrafted players into skilled players, they do not shy away from giving opportunities to previously proven players in the league as well.

The signing of former Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love during the 2022-23 NBA season is a prime example of this.

This season, the Heat are reportedly looking to acquire Gordon Hayward via trade, according to Sean Deveney via Dru on Twitter.

“Gordon Hayward is a different player now, obviously, but one thing about Pat Riley, he does fixate, he has guys who once he likes them, he kind of keeps trying to bring them in, even later in their careers,” Deveney said, according to a league source.

Deveney stated that this anonymous Eastern Conference executive believes Hayward’s transformation in the latter stages of his career makes him the ideal player for the Heat.

Furthermore, the unnamed executive believes that if Pat Riley wants a player at any point in their career, he will go above and beyond to get them.

The executive also mentioned how Goran Dragic and Josh Richardson signed with the Heat at the end of their careers.

This season, Hayward is averaging 15.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game for the Charlotte Hornets.

The 33-year-old forward can also serve as a veteran voice in the Heat’s locker room.

Given that the Heat are 15-12 this season, trading for Hayward could be the missing piece of the puzzle that the organization has been looking for.
