SAD NEWS: A dedicated and hardworking Alabama CB transfers to Auburn after Nick Saban’s retirement

Former Alabama cornerback Antonio Kite will transfer and sign with Auburn, the team announced Wednesday afternoon. This is the first significant shift in the rivalry between the two teams in the post-Nick Saban era.
Following Saban’s resignation, over 20 Alabama athletes—including some important players like Caleb Downs, Isaiah Bond, and Kadyn Proctor—entered the transfer portal.
Over his two seasons with the Crimson Tide, Kite has participated in nine games. During the 2023 season, he participated in seven games, primarily as a special teams player.

The native of Anniston, Alabama, will be eligible for three more years. Just minutes before Alabama’s press conference to reveal new head coach Kalen DeBoer, word leaked out about his transfer portal admission.

Kite, a former four-star prospect, was ranked among the top 200 players in the high school class of 2022 by the 247Sports composite rankings.

Kite will be the next young, highly-regarded recruit to join an Auburn secondary that already features a number of other youthful, highly-regarded high school talents who need experience. Due to the NFL Draft and transfer portal, Auburn will be losing a number of important players from their 2023 secondary, including DJ James, Nehemiah Pritchett, Jaylin Simpson, Zion Puckett, and Donovan Kaufman.

The only defensive backs from Auburn that are back with extensive starting experience are Keionte Scott and Kayin Lee. In particular, Lee will only be a genuine sophomore in the upcoming campaign.

Jerrin Thompson, a safety who is transferring from Texas, was added to Auburn on Monday in order to significantly increase the secondary’s experience level.
