ESPN NEWS: Falcons GM reveals: Rams could be blocked from their preferred Raheem Morris replacement

Now that Raheem Morris has accepted the position of head coach for the Atlanta Falcons, his previous employer, the Los Angeles Rams, is looking for a new defensive coordinator. And, while the squad may be looking for a highly respected successor, making an offer may not be as simple.

The prospective candidate in consideration is Ejiro Evero, who was the Carolina Panthers’ defensive coordinator in 2023. However, because Evero is under contract with the Panthers, they can prevent any pursuit of its DC.
“Yes, Ejiro Evero would be a very strong external candidate for the Rams’ DC job,” The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue wrote on X (previously Twitter).

“However, as a reminder, teams can deny interview requests for lateral transfers, and Carolina appeared to be intent on keeping Evero earlier this season. So let’s see what happens!”

Evero and Rams have history together.
Another challenge the Rams would have if they decide to bring Evero back to Los Angeles is that they are not the only NFL team interested in his services.

Prior to Morris’ hiring, Evero was interviewed twice by the Falcons for the role of head coach. He is also a candidate for the open head coaching position with the Seattle Seahawks. His current employer, the Panthers, interviewed him twice about promoting him to the major role.

Evero served one season as the Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator before joining the Panthers in 2023.

With his skills in such high demand, it’s understandable that the Panthers don’t want to lose him, especially to a fellow NFC team.
