JUST IN: Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has reveals $36 Million new man is out for Rest of Regular Season

Grant Delpit just signed an extension with the Cleveland Browns, but the standout safety could miss the rest of the season due to a groin injury.

Delpit signed a three-year, $36 million contract extension with the Browns on Monday. With an announcement, the team made it official.

Browns S Grant Delpit says Cleveland has the best defense in the NFL

“I’m very excited to further my career in Cleveland,” Delpit said. “Since the day I was drafted, the city has shown me nothing but love.” I can’t say enough good things about the Haslams, [Andrew Berry], all of my coaches and teammates, and the environment since I’ve been here. I’m looking forward to continuing this winning culture and repaying the love that Cleveland has shown me. It’s unfortunate that the injury happened yesterday, but I’m doing everything I can to return as soon as possible to help the team win.”

Delpit will have to put the party on hold. He was injured in Sunday’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and is now a “candidate” for injured reserve, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. Delpit would have to miss at least four games if he is placed on injured reserve. That concludes the regular season.

“The Browns, of course, hope that Delpit makes it back for this pivotal home stretch, but he’s a candidate for injured reserve, meaning he’d have to miss the final four games,” Cabot said.

Delpit, a second-round pick in 2020, leads the Browns in tackles with 83 and has seven tackles for loss. He’s been an important part of Cleveland’s defensive turnaround. He’ll be missed if he’s out for any length of time.

“I’m very excited to further my career in Cleveland,” Delpit said. “Since the day I was drafted, the city has shown me nothing but love.” I can’t say enough good things about the Haslams, AB, and all of my coaches and teammates since I’ve been here. I’m looking forward to continuing this winning culture and repaying the love that Cleveland has shown me. It’s unfortunate that the injury occurred on Sunday, but I’m doing everything I can to return as soon as possible to help the team win.”

The Browns have not decided whether or not to place Delpit on injured reserve. According to head coach Kevin Stefanski, the team is still waiting for more information.

“Still working through that injury and getting some more clarity on that one,” Stefanski said of Delpit on Monday.

The Browns are dealing with injuries all over the field.

Delpit’s injury is the latest in a string of misfortunes for the Browns this season. Already out are Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward and veteran safety Juan Thonrhill, who is out with a calf injury.

No one in Cleveland, however, is making excuses. The Browns are still in the driver’s seat for a playoff spot, sitting at 8-5.

“There’s no quitting in us, and there never will be,” Browns running back Myles Garrett said on Sunday, December 10. “Not a single man will falter or waiver in the face of adversity, whether personally or as a team.” We’ll all point in the same direction and keep our eyes on the prize.”

This week, the Browns travel to Chicago to face the Bears. This season, Chicago has struggled at times, but they are currently on a two-game winning streak.
