The Los Angeles Dodgers have been linked to a number of free agents this offseason, but fans were recently enthralled after All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado shared a series of photographs on Instagram, along with Kendrick Lamar’s song “dodger blue.”
Several fans interpreted Arenado’s choice of music as a hint about his intended trade destination this winter. It is well known that the St. Louis Cardinals are shopping the 10-time Gold Glove winner as they prepare to restructure their squad in 2025. Arenado has six preferred destinations, including the Dodgers.
There was also speculation that the Dodgers were interested in Arenado, which was surprising given that the organization already had a starting third baseman in Max Muncy. However, the most important question remains: where does Arenado fit on the roster?
Muncy, a two-time World Series champion for the Dodgers, addressed the rumours during a recent appearance on Foul Territory.
“As long as I get to stay around, I don’t care who they bring in,” Muncy joked. “I believe Andrew (Friedman) and Brandon (Gomes) understand my position on that very well. I’ve never said, ‘No, I’m not going to play this or that position. I’m not going to bat at this position in the order. I do not care. As long as you put me out there, I’ll play anywhere they put me. As long as it means I’m out there on the field in Dodger blue, playing in that stadium. If you look at his statistics, he is arguably the finest defensive third baseman. I understand why it would be appealing. To me, it makes no difference. I just want to be there to help the team win.”
Muncy’s mindset is straightforward: the more the merrier. As the Dodgers aim to assemble another World Series lineup, Muncy is prepared to contribute in any way. His selflessness exemplifies the Dodgers’ success in the 2020 and 2024 Fall Classics.
While Arenado is unlikely to join the Dodgers, it’s comforting to know Muncy doesn’t mind if he gets a spot in the lineup.
