BREAKING: Saints Owner Gayle Benson Releases Official Statement On QB Derek Carr Future At The Saint

In a move that will shape the New Orleans Saints’ quarterback situation heading into the 2025 season, team owner Gayle Benson has officially addressed the future of Derek Carr with the franchise.

Speculation had been mounting after an up-and-down 2024 campaign, where Carr struggled with consistency amid injuries and offensive struggles. With the Saints missing the playoffs and questions surrounding the team’s long-term direction, many wondered whether Carr would remain the starting quarterback moving forward.

On Monday morning, Benson released a statement regarding the team’s plans:

“Derek Carr is our quarterback, and we fully believe in his ability to lead this team. While this past season presented challenges, we remain committed to building a strong foundation around him. Our focus this offseason is on ensuring he has the support and resources needed to succeed, and we have full confidence in his leadership moving forward.”

The statement comes after weeks of speculation that the Saints might explore other quarterback options, including the possibility of drafting a young signal-caller or pursuing a trade. Carr, who signed a four-year, $150 million contract with the Saints in 2023, remains under contract through the 2026 season. However, his performance in 2024 left some fans and analysts questioning whether he was still the right choice for the franchise.

Carr finished the 2024 season with 3,695 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, battling through offensive line issues and inconsistent receiver play. Despite flashes of strong play, the Saints finished with a disappointing 8-9 record, missing the postseason for the third consecutive year.

Benson’s statement suggests that New Orleans will remain committed to Carr for at least the 2025 season. However, the front office is expected to be aggressive in free agency and the draft to bolster the offensive line and receiving corps.

With the Saints doubling down on Carr, all eyes will now be on the offseason moves that could determine whether he can turn things around and lead New Orleans back to contention in the NFC South.
