Meanwhile, former Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has reportedly been ruled out as a realistic option.
Cousins, who signed a lucrative four-year deal with the Falcons this offseason, could suddenly find himself on the chopping block if Atlanta pivots toward a younger option, particularly after drafting a top QB prospect. If that scenario unfolds, the Jets are expected to show interest in Cousins as a backup or contingency plan behind Rodgers.
The Jets are in a win-now mode but face major concerns regarding Rodgers’ durability. The 40-year-old quarterback is coming off a devastating Achilles injury that ended his 2023 season just four snaps into Week 1. Although Rodgers is expected to return at full strength, the need for a reliable insurance policy is undeniable.
Cousins, despite recovering from his own Achilles injury last season, has been one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the NFL over the past decade. His ability to run a structured offense and deliver under pressure makes him an intriguing option if Atlanta unexpectedly moves on.
