After a fresh injury report on starter Anthony Richardson, former New York Giants quarterback Jacob Eason is expected to get a significant opportunity in an unexpected turn of events that might change the layout of the Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback room.
According to reports, Richardson, the Colts’ highly-touted young quarterback who was selected as their long-term leader, is enduring shoulder pain that might require the organization to reassess his workload throughout training camp. Although it isn’t regarded as a significant setback, the Colts are moving cautiously, which is allowing a well-known player to take center stage.
Jacob Eason comes on. After being selected in the fourth round by the Colts in 2020, Eason has returned to Indianapolis after stints with the Seahawks, Panthers, and most notably the Giants.
No one anticipated that Eason would be given significant practice reps and possibly even lengthy preseason play now that Richardson may be limited.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters, “Jacob knows the system and has a big arm.” He has been preparing, and now is his opportunity to demonstrate his abilities. We are giving reps to guys who can compete because we are not in a rush to get Anthony.
Eason has had a really difficult journey. Many believed that he was no longer a viable NFL option after his brief and quiet time with the Giants. However, he has remained in the mix because of his perseverance, physical tools, and familiarity with the Colts’ scheme.
. Given that Richardson’s condition is uncertain and Gardner Minshew is now in Philadelphia, Eason could move up the depth chart rapidly.
According to NFL experts, this might mark a sea change in Eason’s career.
According to former NFL quarterback and pundit Dan Orlovsky, “he has a rocket arm and the size you want in a pocket passer.” What he hasn’t had is steady opportunity. He may have been waiting for this door.
For Colts supporters, Richardson’s recuperation is still the biggest concern. For the time being, however, Jacob Eason’s tale is one of surprising redemption — an opportunity to turn his career around and demonstrate that he still has a place under center in the NFL.
After just one injury update, a former Giants quarterback takes the stage.
It is now his responsibility to take it.
