Akers has ripped his Achilles for the second time. He previously sustained the same injury in July 2021, missing nearly the entire regular season. He returned for the regular-season finale and the playoffs, but he struggled to regain his previous form following the injury.
Akers, a 2020 second-round pick out of Florida State, was traded to the Vikings in September for a late-round pick swap. Akers rushed for 1,443 yards and 10 touchdowns in 30 games for the Rams, averaging four yards per carry. Prior to his injury on Sunday, he had rushed for 138 yards and one touchdown with the Vikings.
