JUST IN: Injury status of Texans rookie QB Stroud revealed.

HOUSTON, Texas (AP) — C.J. Stroud had the worst game of his young career against the New York Jets on Sunday before leaving with a concussion.

The Texans must now wait to see if their star rookie quarterback can return this week or if Davis Mills will have to start against the Titans.

“We’ll see how he progresses,” DeMeco Ryans, the coach, said. “Not many guys have returned from a concussion the following week.” It’s about long-term health rather than game excitement. We are concerned about their long-term health.”

Stroud and the rest of the Texans (7-6) struggled to do much right in a 30-6 loss to the Jets, who came in having lost five straight.

Both teams were scoreless in the first half before New York took control after the break.

Stroud entered Sunday leading the NFL in passing yards with 3,540 and had averaged 348 yards per game in his previous five games. He did, however, have a season-low 91 yards Sunday while playing in wet and windy conditions before leaving with about 6 1/2 minutes remaining after hitting his head on the turf.

They made plays, while we didn’t,” Ryans explained. “You go out and play like that, you don’t make plays, and you don’t deserve to win the football game.” So, we didn’t show up and didn’t make enough plays to win, and that’s what happens when you play like that.”

Despite the sloppy conditions, Ryans would not blame the weather for the passing game’s struggles.
