FRUSTRATING METS: NY Mets Are Set To Trade First Baseman to Red Sox After Brutal Injury News As Confirmed By Head Of Baseball Operation David Stearns

The New York Mets are off to the finest start in baseball, sitting first in the National League East division with a 22-11 record. The franchise built on a Cinderella run to the National League Championship Series last season by signing superstar hitter Juan Soto and All-Star pitcher Clay Holmes, while also extending frontline ace Sean Manaea and native first baseman Pete Alonso’s contracts. But, after a playoff candidate in the American League suffered a devastating physical setback, the Mets may be willing to shed some of their peripheral talent.

“The Boston Red Sox were dealt a major loss on Friday night,” RJ Anderson wrote for CBS Sports. “First baseman Triston Casas ruptured his left patellar tendon after landing awkwardly on the bag in the second inning. Casas, who was carted off the field, was attempting to leg out an infield single. The Red Sox have several options for replacing Casas. In the near term, they seem set on moving Romy González and Abraham Toro into the spot. But a more permanent solution would involve a trade and the Red Sox could be phoning the Mets about veteran first baseman Jon Singleton.

“Singleton would seem to mostly fit the Red Sox’s needs: he’s a lefty hitter who produced league-average offense last year in a platoon role with the Houston Astros,” Anderson told reporters. “He’s not going to overtake Pete Alonso anytime soon.” One has to believe the Mets would be eager to transfer him to Boston if the Red Sox expressed interest.” Singleton joined the Mets on a minor league contract in April, and if the Red Sox can offer anything of more immediate worth to Queens, the Mets will surely consider a trade.
